SINGAPORE - Singapore swimmer Joseph Schooling, who won nine golds in nine events at the 2015 SEA Games, donated $10,000 to charity on Tuesday morning.

Schooling, who turned 20 on Tuesday, pledged $5,000 each to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) and the Eurasian Association (EA).

In addition, the University of Texas student had hoped to raise $50,000 for SPMF, which provides pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school.

The public can make donations at https://www.simplygiving.com/josephschooling. The donation drive will be open till National Day, to coincide with Singapore's 50th birthday.

Said Schooling: "I've had friends who were not as fortunate as me, and I can see what having more pocket money can do. That really touches me, and I want to try and inspire a generation and help kids that are less fortunate as much as I can. Kids are the future of our country, we got to support them.

"The EA has always supported me as a kid, and I thought it'd be nice to support them."
