Tanjong Katong Girls' School (TKGS) reclaimed the Schools National B division softball title on Tuesday, beating CHIJ St Theresa Convent (STC) 7-5 at Kallang Field in a rematch of last year's final.

TKGS raced to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, before STC, inspired by captain Dinie Raman's home run, made a comeback to level the score at 4-4 in the third inning.

But a steady performance in the fourth meant three more runs for TKGS, who defended well to allow their opponents just one more run.

Memories of last year's defeat in a similar match-up had given TKGS extra motivation to win the title this year.

"When we lost last year, we really wanted to come back and win it this year," said TKGS captain Sanggita Supramaniam. "We fought hard and we won, so I'm really happy."

There was no shame in defeat for STC, though.

Said STC captain Dinie: "We lost today, but we improved in this game and we gave it our all, so it's a performance that we can be proud of."

These sentiments were echoed by STC coach Collin Tan, who said: "To me, the journey is more important than the end result, and I'm happy with how they came back in the game."
