Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) reclaimed the B Divison Schools National Trampoline Championships title on Tuesday. Champions in 2012, HCI finished a disappointing fourth last year.
David Yao, third in the C Division last year, was among the champions' top performers at Bishan Sports Hall yesterday. The 15-year-old won the individual title, scoring 35.100 points, just 0.100 ahead of his closest rival and HCI captain Riley Yap, 16.
Riley said that David's win was a pleasant surprise for the team. He said: "Our first four jumpers did well, there was less pressure on him, and he delivered."
It was a tight affair in the B Division Girls, as CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School (SNGS) edged out rivals Nanyang Girls' High School (NYGH) by 0.500 points to retain their team title. This was despite NYGH's Fionna Chew and Yang Jia Yee coming in first and second respectively in the individual category.
NYGH was however dominant in the C Division Girls category, as they swept the top three individual positions and emerged as champions for the second consecutive year.
In the A Division, no team championships were awarded due to the insufficient number of schools competing. HCI's Bao Jianda and Chua Chelsea emerged as individual champions.
