School sports: ACS (I) snatch squash title from RI's grasp with 3-2 win in B Division boys' final

SINGAPORE - Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) prevented Raffles Institution (RI) from winning their third consecutive National School Games 'B' Division boys' squash title with a dramatic 3-2 win on Tuesday (March 28).

Played in a best of five format, Matthew Wong gave ACS (I) the lead by beating his opponent Ong Zheng Ting 3-0 (11-5,11-7, 11-5) in the opening match at Kallang Squash Centre.

The defending champions responded with Tan Izhi outplaying ACS (I) captain Ernest Chua 11-5,9-11,11-5, 11-8 to level the tie before David Mow defeated RI's Tobias Khoo 11-7, 11-2, 11-7 as ACS (I) regained the advantage.

Raffles, backed by strong support from their supporters, fought back again as Jovan Lee brushed aside Wong Xu Hong 11-6,11-0, 11-8 to set up a thrilling decider.

It was left to ACS (I)'s Kieren Tan to be the hero as he recovered from losing the first game 8-11 to RI's Li Chu Wei before reeling off the next three games 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 to deliver the championship for his school.
