Sailing: Two new teams to make Extreme Sailing Singapore debut

Two teams will make their maiden voyages in Singapore when the Extreme Sailing Series, entering its ninth edition this year, starts next month at the Promontory@Marina Bay.

Italy's Lino Sonego Team Italia, skippered by multiple-world champion Lorenzo Bressani, will sail on the Marina Bay waters for the first time. They are joined by fellow debutants Team Turx from Turkey.

The absence of last year's champions, Switzerland's Team Alinghi, means the Singapore competition is now wide open. The Wave, Muscat, who finished second to Alinghi last year, will be aiming for a triumph at the Feb 5-8 competition.

Singapore's Asian Games medallist, Justin Wong, will also be in action for Team Aberdeen. Wong won the J80 open match racing at the Incheon Asian Games last year as part of a team of five.
