The Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Rugby Sevens has scored the first title sponsor in its 67-year history, with Societe Generale adding its weight to Asia's oldest sevens rugby tournament.
Besides backing the annual competition at the Padang, the French bank's two-year sponsorship - believed to be worth a five-figure sum each year - also includes support for the SCC rugby section as well as the club's junior rugby academy, which has 400 young players between the age of eight and 16.
Pascal Lambert, Societe Generale's head of corporate & investment banking (South-east Asia), said: "Societe Generale and rugby share the same values of team spirit, commitment, innovation and respect. As Societe Generale celebrates its 150th Anniversary this year, we are delighted to partner the Singapore Cricket Club in supporting rugby at all levels while sharing its excitement and best moments with the community"
This weekend's SCC Sevens boasts arguably its strongest field to date, with four teams - including French powerhouses Stade Francais - making their debut. Fiji's Daveta and last year's finalists Penguins from the UK are also tipped to put on a good showing at the tournament, which runs from Friday till Sunday.
A new element this year will be a Halloween party on Friday evening, offering a treat for rugby enthusiasts and revellers alike. Tickets for the tournament can be purchased at http://www.ticketbooth.com.sg.
