On-land dragon boat tug-of-war event held at SMU

SINGAPORE - Over 200 people participated in the Dragon Battle, a dragon boat tug-of-war held on Saturday (May 20).

The event, staged by the Singapore Management University (SMU) and alumni-owned company Dragon Boat Innovate, is a prelude to the DBS Marina Regatta.

The Dragon Battle took place at SMU's campus at Victoria Street, with a mobile pool brought onto the SMU Campus Green to encourage non-dragon boaters to participate. The event is usually held at the Olympic-sized pool at the Orchid Country Club.

The DBS Marina Regatta will take place from June 1-4 at Marina Bay.

This year's regatta will see about 90 teams and more than 3,000 athletes compete across three categories in the international dragon boat competition for cash prizes totalling $134,000.
