The Singapore National Olympic Council commemorated Olympic Day with a 1.9km walk from Jurong East Sports Centre yesterday. Participants wore red Olympic Day T-shirts for the event, which was graced by SNOC president Tan Chuan-Jin. Before flagging off the walk, he led a symbolic torch-lighting ceremony together with national shooter Martina Veloso and Olympic gymnast Lim Heem Wei. Yesterday also saw the launch of the fourth edition of the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival. More than 2,300 Under-18 athletes will take part in nine sports over two weekends. The festivities culminated in a carnival at Jurong East Sports Centre, with youngsters trying out sports like basketball and archery.
