Singapore's national cyclists will have an official bike fitter for the first time, ahead of August's SEA Games.
Fahrenheit Performance, which provides cycling analytics and bike fitting services, was yesterday announced as the Singapore Cycling Federation's (SCF) official bike fitter for this season.
Bike fitting refers to the adjusting of a bicycle to fit the rider, based on an evaluation of the athlete's physical conditions and needs.
Said SCF's honorary secretary Hing Siong Chen: "To maximise a cyclist's riding experience and efficiency, and to protect the cyclist from injury, three key elements have to be considered: the condition and bike quality; the cyclist's bike handling and technical ability; and the science of bike fitting."
Fahrenheit Performance's director Martin Choo added: "We are very excited to have been chosen by SCF as their official bike fitter for 2017, and are looking forward to help prepare the national team for the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur."
The biennial Games will take place from August 19-31, with 20 cycling gold medals on offer across three disciplines - BMX, road and track.
"In the realm of high performance sports, every fine detail needs to be carefully planned and executed to ensure optimum performance," added Hing.
"Having Fahrenheit Performance on board as SCF's official bike fitter will further strengthen SCF's 'team behind the team' approach, and will put our national cyclists in good stead leading up to the SEA Games."
National road cyclist Serene Lee believes the squad will benefit from having an official bike fitter.
The 28-year-old said: "The good part is there's a physiotherapist working simultaneously with the person doing the bike fitting, which allows your body posture to be corrected.
"This provides a clinical perspective, so that the bike can be adjusted to fit your body."
