Motor racing: SingTel to continue as title sponsor for F1 Singapore Grand Prix

SingTel announced on Friday that it will continue to be the title sponsor for the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix.

In a media statement, organiser Singapore GP confirmed that the local telco giant had extended its partnership with the race for a sixth edition, with the option to renew the deal until 2017.

While figures were not disclosed, the title sponsorship was said to previously cost the telco group in the region of S$10-15 million per year.

"Since the inaugural night race in 2008, SingTel have helped shape the F1 Singapore Grand Prix into one of the must-attend events on the motorsports calendar," the Singapore GP statement read. "Much of the success of the first five years could not have been possible without their invaluable support."

This year's race - the first of a new five-year deal penned last September - will take place from Sept 20-22.
