The hugely-popular Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts series will hold its first show in Singapore next year.
At a press conference in Beijing on Thursday, officials of the United States-based franchise revealed that the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and the Venetian Macao will host full-fledged fight cards in 2014. The exact dates for the live shows were not revealed.
"We are pleased to bring UFC centre-stage not only to Macao, but also to our Singapore property," said MBS chief executive George Tanasijevich. "Marina Bay Sands is proud to host several UFC events over the coming years. This partnership is part of our ongoing commitment to Singapore to offer the best in international sports and entertainment for our guests and for the local population."
UFC, which brings together exponents with backgrounds such as karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling in unarmed combat, will also hold tryouts at MBS on July 25 for its first Ultimate Fighter television series in Asia. The show will be filmed in Shenyang, China later this year.
