LionsXII stay top of Malaysian Super League

The LionsXII have extended their lead at the top of the Malaysian Super League after beating Perak 2-1 at Jalan Besar Stadium.

In a week to remember for skipper Shahril Ishak, the attacking midfielder was named the inaugural Asean Football Federation Player of the Year and he celebrated in style by netting twice against Perak.

Latching on to Hariss Harun's through pass in the eighth minute, the 29-year-old cleverly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to give V. Sundramoorthy's men the lead.

In the 58th minute, Shahril secured victory when he pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty box to ram the ball home. Perak scored through midfielder Rafiuddin Roddin in stoppage time to reduce the deficit.

With the win, the LionsXII now have 23 points, four points ahead of second-placed Selangor, and lead the 12-team table.
