SINGAPORE - Cooptado reigned supreme on Sunday as he captured the Longines Singapore Gold Cup.

The five-year-old Argentinian-bred gelding, ridden by jockey Shafiq Rizuan, outlasted his rivals to claim the $1.35 million Group 1 race over 2,200m at the Singapore Turf Club.

The victory by the Patrick Shaw-trained galloper ended Stepitup's bid to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown Series.

Stepitup had won the first two legs last month, the Kranji Mile and Raffles Cup, and needed to win the Gold Cup to complete a historic hat-trick.

He finished ninth while defending champion Quechua was fifth. Fastnet Dragon was second, a head adrift of Cooptado with Perfect P a further 23/4 lengths back in third.
