NAIROBI (XINHUA) - Kenya will stage the hockey Africa Nations Cup tournament next month after getting the green light from both the Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
The event, which was slated to be staged in Nairobi at the beginning of this month, was postponed at the last minute after a terror attack hit the Kenyan capital at Westgate Mall, killing at least 67 people and injuring another 175.
Nii Quaye-Kumah, the AfHF secretary general, confirmed that the tournament is on after the security situation in Kenya improved.
"The tournament will now run from Nov 18-24," said Kumah in a letter to the Kenya Hockey Union.
The continental body also said that four countries have withdrawn from the tournament citing security concerns and lack of funds.
This leaves South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya as the only teams who have confirmed participation.
The top two teams will clash for the ultimate prize and the right to represent Africa at the 2014 FIH World Cup in The Hague in the Netherlands.
