They may be more than 15,000km away in Rio de Janeiro, but that did not stop Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin (front, left), who is also the president of the Singapore National Olympic Council, and Team Singapore's Olympic contingent from joining in the National Day celebrations. Mr Tan and national swimmer Joseph Schooling (right) led the contingent in wishing the Republic a happy 51st birthday via a video recording. Singapore is represented in Brazil by 25 athletes.
