Golf: Singapore's Marc Ong wins Malaysian Amateur Open Championship

Singapore golfer Marc Ong won the 113th Malaysian Amateur Open Golf Championship on Sunday at Kelab Golf Sarawak, in what is a timely boost for the golfer ahead of the SEA Games next month.

The 19-year-old led from wire to wire after posting a four-under 68 in round one on Thursday. He carded 70, 69, and 68 in the next three rounds to finish ahead of Australia's Harrison Endycott (280).

The win follows his triumph at the Philippine Amateur Open Matchplay last month. His SEA Games team-mate Johnson Poh, who won an individual and team silver at the 2009 Games, finished tied for ninth (292), while Abdul Hadi Uda Thith placed 30th (299).

Next up for the golfers is the May 26-28 Saujana Amateur Championship at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.
