SINGAPORE - The organisers of the SMBC Singapore Open announced yesterday that the golf tournament will be played from Jan 19-22, 2017.

The US$1 million (S$1.35 million) event will be held at Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course, which has hosted the tournament since 2005. The Singapore Open returned in February 2016 after a three-year hiatus.

"The return of the Singapore Open this year for the first time since 2012 reminded everyone why it is one of the region's best tournaments and we are excited to be able to start revealing details about next season," said Singapore Golf Association president Bob Tan.

Patrick Feizal Joyce, vice-president (golf) at event promoter Lagardere Sports, added that star names and new initiatives for the competition will be unveiled in the next few months.

World No. 3 Jordan Spieth headlined this year's event, but it was the unheralded South Korean Song Young Han who stole the show. Song, 24, upset the then world No. 1 golfer to clinch his first professional title. The American finished second.
