SINGAPORE - Former world No. 1 Ai Miyazato has received a sponsor's invite to compete in next month's HSBC Women's Champions.

The winner of the 2010 edition will be joined by England's Melissa Reid as part of the elite 63-women field that includes world No. 1 Lydia Ko and second-ranked and defending champion Park In Bee.

Miyazato, 30, has won nine times on the LPGA Tour but has struggled with her form for the past three years. She is currently ranked 159th in the world and did not qualify for last year's edition due to her low ranking.

The March 3-6 tournament will be held at the Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course. Now into its 9th staging, this year's edition has a prizemoney of US$1.5 million (S$2.11 million), up US$100,000 from last year.

Said Miyazato: "I'm delighted to be returning to Singapore for the HSBC Women's Champions. Of course I have wonderful memories from 2010 and would love to challenge for the title again. Sentosa is a tough course but it's a wonderful event and I look forward to seeing all the fans there again."

Reid, 83rd in the world, won the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour last year. This will be her first time competing at the SGC, which is hosting the HSBC Women's Champions for the fourth time since 2013.

She said: "It's a different course from the last time I played the tournament so I'm looking forward to playing the Serapong - I've heard it's pretty challenging so it will be interesting."
