SINGAPORE - British bank HSBC has extended its title sponsorship of the Women's Champions golf tournament in Singapore for another three years.

Officials said the event, which showcases the world's top 63 players, will remain at the Sentosa Golf Club for that period as well.

Its ninth edition will be staged from March 3-6 next year, with the prize pot bumped to US$1.5 million (S$2.1 million), up from US$1.4 million for the previous five years.

Giles Morgan, Global Head of Sponsorship and Events at HSBC, said: "HSBC Women's Champions is our flagship women's event and has emerged into a truly world-class championship by any measure, becoming increasingly important for the world of golf and for the bank.

"HSBC is committed to opening up the world of golf and this tournament has done exactly that for women's golf."

The 2015 edition was won by seven-time Major champion Park In Bee of South Korea, joining an illustrious list of past winners including former world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa and American fan favourites Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer.

HSBC has also extended its men's golf sponsorship for five more years with the World Golf Championship event in Shanghai and the European Tour event in Abu Dhabi. It is also a main sponsor for the British Open.
