Golf: Gregory Foo captures 68th Singapore Open Amateur Championship

SINGAPORE - National golfer Gregory Foo won the Singapore Open Amateur Championship at the Singapore Island Country Club's Island Course on Friday.

He shot a final round two-under 68 for a five-under total of 275 to claim the title, seven shots clear of Thai golfer Kousuke Hamamoto (71) who finished second.

Singapore's Lucius Toh (72) and Malaysian Paul San (73) tied Hamamoto's score of 282 but place third and fourth respectively based on countback.

The 22-year-old Foo's victory has earned him a spot in next year's US$1 million (S$1.37 million) SMBC Singapore Open, held at the Sentosa Golf Club from Jan 28-31.

In the team event, Thailand's Witchayanon Chothirunrungrueng and Hamamoto took top honours with a combined score of 425. The Republic's pairings of James Leow and Joshua Shou (429) and Marc Ong and Foo (431) were second and third.
