Golf: No Singapore Open in 2013, but tournament will be held early next year

Organisers have confirmed that the Singapore Open golf championship will go on a hiatus this year and be held in early 2014.

The venue, prize pot and sanctioning body for the Republic's premier golf tournament remain unclear.

Among the reasons cited for moving the event to an unspecified date early next year was to stay clear of inclement weather during its usual November slot. Rain has hampered recent editions of the Open, which was held at the Sentosa Golf Club between 2005 and 2012.

Singapore Golf Association president Bob Tan said: "We are supportive of the Singapore Open being moved to a more favourable season and we are confident that the new schedule will be well received by both the golfers and the public."
