SINGAPORE'S top golfer Mardan Mamat holds the joint opening-round lead after firing a five-under 67 at the PGM CCM Rahman Putra Masters in Selangor on Wednesday.
The 45-year-old, along with Malaysian R. Nachimuthu, is one shot ahead at the RM200,000 (S$80,000) event, which is the first Asian Development Tour tournament to receive world ranking points in the 2013 season.
Mardan's splendid start was capped by a 30-foot eagle putt on the fifth. He also sank five other birdies against two bogeys.
"I'm satisfied with the way I played. I concentrated a lot on my fitness during the off-season. I went to the gym four times a week and worked out, which has helped my game," said the three-time Asian Tour winner.
Fellow Singaporean Lam Chih Bing is tied-ninth after carding a 69 at the Rahman Putra Golf Club.
