SINGAPORE - Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are practically fearless when they step into their Formula One cars, but it appears there is something that they fear after all - durians.

The Red Bull drivers tasted the XXO D24 type during a feast and media session at the Monti at 1-Pavilion on Wednesday night (Sept 13).

"It tastes like puke," said 19-year-old Verstappen who jokingly asked for a mask. "Even if it was the hottest model in the world, if she was eating that, I'd say no."

Belgian Verstappen, who was squirming and looking away from the fruit at times, added that he would rather drink 100 "shoeys" - a celebratory antic by team-mate Ricciardo in which he drinks champagne from his sweaty race boot - than eat durian again.

It was a milder experience for Ricciardo, however.

The 28-year old Australian said: "The most exotic food I've had is probably coconut... I like coconut (more).

"I've never tried anything like this, just the texture, I didn't think it was like this. It's really interesting."

Ricciardo added: "I thought the smell would be worse than the taste, maybe it'll taste better.

"The taste was even stronger, and the texture was weird and reminded me of something... big foot's d***."

Last year, the pair captured the hearts of Singaporeans and generated buzz online through a team video, which showcased their attempts to speak Singlish, and captured their reactions while tasting local delicacies like chilli crab and sambal stingray at Newton Food Centre.

Ricciardo enters the Singapore Grand Prix in fourth place (144 points) while Verstappen is in sixth (68 points).
