SINGAPORE - Former national table tennis player Wang Yuegu has announced on Thursday (Oct 13) night her divorce from husband Gabriel Lee.

In a Facebook post, the 36-year-old Wang wrote in Chinese: "Gabriel Lee and I have been divorced. I don't wish to dwell on the reasons, but I think everyone should understand why a woman would get a divorce shortly after giving birth."

She also said in the same post that Gabriel Lee, a 34-year-old Taiwanese, had "disappointed everyone".

The couple have been married since June 2011, and their baby boy was born in July this year.

Wang, a two-time Olympic medallist, was part of the team that sensationally toppled China to become world champions in 2010.

She retired from competitive table tennis after winning a women's team bronze for Singapore at the 2012 London Olympics.
