SHANGHAI • Cristiano Ronaldo's six-pack abs are the result of a tough fitness regimen, but the footballer has designed a product that promises to deliver a toned stomach without heavy training.
In collaboration with Japanese company MTG, the Real Madrid superstar yesterday launched the Training Gear Sixpad, an 84g device that packs a punch.
Using Electric Muscle Stimulator (EMS) technology, the gadget - shaped after Ronaldo's own ripped abs - targets fast-twitch muscles around the abdomen for a more evident change.
Users will reportedly have a tighter tummy within a month of using it for about 20 minutes each day.
"It's a fantastic product which I believe will give anyone, regardless of their age, better abs," Ronaldo said at a press conference.
The Portuguese star had invited MTG president Tsuyoshi Matsushita to his Madrid home last October to finalise the design and structure of the product.
It can be worn while reading a book, commuting or doing chores around the house.
Backed by Ronaldo's endorsement, MTG expects to sell three million units of the Training Gear Sixpad in the next three years alone.
Matsushita said: "My only worry is whether production meets demand."
Aibi International is the sole distributor of Ronaldo's MTG line in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. The Sixpad is available for $299, while a separate version focusing on the waist, arms and legs sells for $229.
