With the Euro 2016 Champions League opening match between host nation France and Romania set to begin in a few hours, football fans all over the world sure are getting into the spirit of Euro 2016.

Whether you're an avid football fan or a newbie to the world of football, here is some useful information to get you ready.

This edition of the European Championships is being held in France from June 10 to July 10. A total of 24 countries will battle it out to be crowned the victor of Euro 2016. Matches will take place across the country, with the opening and final games held at Stade de France, on the outskirts of Paris.

This is France's third time hosting the Euro Cup, more than any other country, with the previous two in 1984 and 1960 (when it oversaw the inauguration of the tournament).

In Euro's 56 years of history, Germany and Spain both tie at having the most number of Euro Cup titles, with three victories, while France have two.

So will hosting the championship for the third time be a charm for France, and lead them to win Euro 2016 on home soil again?

We'll have to wait to find out.
