Tottenham Hotspur bagged the 26th Lion City Cup after a convincing 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool at Jalan Besar Stadium yesterday evening.
The final, which featured both the Under-15 sides of the English Premier League teams, was a high-tempo affair with the teams going for an aggressive and attacking style of play.
In a dominant performance, Spurs controlled the match largely through the physical presence of towering midfielder Tashan Oakley Boothe and the silky playmaking of Nya Kirby, who was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Forward Rodel Richards gave Spurs the lead by firing home from a tight angle after just six minutes.
On the stroke of half-time, attacking midfielder Kirby doubled the lead from the penalty spot after forward Paul Glatzel handled the ball inside the box.
In the 65th minute, Richards exchanged passes with Boothe before he powered the ball past goalkeeper George Neave.
Liverpool could have reduced the deficit in the 80th minute when forward Daniel Griffiths beat the offside trap. But he slotted wide with only goalkeeper Brandon Austin to beat.
The rout was completed in stoppage time when defender Reo Griffiths hit a pile-driver from 25 metres into the top corner.
