Spurs boss dreams of PSG

Former player Pochettino, who sees Ligue 1 as big talent pool, hopes for eventual return

LONDON • The man who has sparked Tottenham Hotspur to second place in the English Premier League has indicated that a return to former club Paris Saint-Germain as manager is "part of my dreams".

Mauricio Pochettino, the former Argentina football international spent two years in the French capital between 2001 and 2003, making more than 70 appearances.

The 44-year-old has since done wonders with Tottenham, having began his managerial career at Spanish club Espanyol in 2009 before moving to England's Southampton in 2012.

However, with question marks about the current PSG coach Laurent Blanc's future after the big-spending club's Champions League quarter-final exit, he has admitted a move to Ligue 1 could be tempting.

Blanc signed a new two-year deal in February and has been assured that he will keep his job for at least another season.

"I've always said that I would be pleased to join a great club like PSG," Pochettino, who has three years remaining on his Spurs contract, told the French radio station RMC.

"Come to Paris? I hope so. It is true that it would please me. It's part of my dreams. I try to watch all their matches, especially in the Champions League.

"The (French) championship is not very attractive because PSG is far from the other teams, but I look a lot because it is a major source of players. There is talent so I have to follow Ligue 1."

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi, who has scored 15 goals for Marseille in Ligue 1 this season.

The 22-year-old is also wanted by fellow London clubs West Ham and Crystal Palace but Pochettino confirmed Spurs will also be in the market for him.

"We are looking for a striker this summer, that's clear," he said. "Michy's a young player who has a lot of talent. He is on the list of many clubs.

"We have quite a few people who have given us information about him. He has good potential. We'll see. We have other players in our sights too."

Tottenham travel to Chelsea on Monday after Leicester City have the chance to seal the title against Manchester United with a victory on Sunday.

Pochettino admitted Claudio Ranieri's side would be deserved winners.

"They deserve to be first," he said. "It attracts outside attention to see that a Leicester team is about to become champions of England. It shows that English football is the most competitive in the world.

"There are three matches, we'll try to do everything to come back, even if it is very complicated for us.

"It's great for the coach Claudio Ranieri."
