BARCELONA • Luis Suarez grabbed a hat-trick and Lionel Messi scored two goals, as Barcelona began their quest for a third straight La Liga title with a 6-2 rout of Real Betis on Saturday.
The Spanish football giants were without several injured players including captain Andres Iniesta and forward Neymar, who was playing for Brazil at the Rio Olympics.
Starc takes 100th wicket in 52nd ODI
COLOMBO • Australian cricketer Mitchell Starc yesterday claimed his 100th one-day international (ODI) wicket in his 52nd match, beating the previous record set by Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq of 100 wickets in 53 matches.
He dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva during the first match in the ODI series against Sri Lanka to reach the milestone.

SYDNEY • All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has explained why it took five days for the New Zealand Rugby Union to come forward about the alleged bugging of the world champions' meeting room in Sydney.
He said All Blacks management decided it was best to wait for NZRU chief Steve Tew to arrive in Sydney from the Rio Olympics before taking the matter further.
McGregor avenges earlier loss to Diaz
LAS VEGAS • Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor won a thrilling decision victory over Nate Diaz in their welterweight rematch at the Ultimate Fighting Championship's UFC 202 event in Las Vegas on Saturday.
McGregor had stepped up two weight classes to fight Diaz in March but lost by submission.
