Timor Leste notched their first football win of their SEA Games campaign after beating Brunei 2-1 in a Group B clash at Bishan Stadium on Wednesday night.
Taking the lead in the 23th minute through forward Jairo Palmeira Neto, Timor Leste asserted their dominance in midfield and broke forward at every opportunity in the first-half.
But they were pegged back after the break when Bruneian forward Faiq Jefri Bolkiah scored from the penalty spot in the 68th minute.
Brunei's joy, however, was short-lived when Timor Leste midfielder Paulo Helber Rosa Ribeiro scored the winner five minutes later.
With the win, Timor Leste rise up to third in the six-team group on three points, ahead of Malaysia and Laos on goal difference. Brunei are anchored at the bottom.
