Football: Yemen lose World Cup qualifier 0-3 over banned player, fined $8,600

ZURICH (AFP) - Fifa on Monday ordered Yemen to forfeit their World Cup qualifying match against North Korea 3-0 for fielding a banned player in the game.

North Korea won the June 11 game 1-0 anyway.

But Fifa said it increased the score in North Korea's favour because Mudir Al Radaei lined up in the Yemen defence when he should have been serving a one-match ban after getting two yellow cards in previous matches.

"The match is declared to be forfeited and awarded 0-3 in favour of DPR Korea, with the Yemen Football Association also receiving a fine of 6,000 Swiss francs (S$8,600)," said a Fifa statement.

Yemen have since lost another Group H qualifying game 2-0 to the Philippines.

North Korea lead the group with six points from two games on goal difference over the Philippines. Bahrain and Uzbekistan are the other teams.
