Football: Sundram to helm Singapore Selection team at Barclays Asia Trophy

SINGAPORE football legend V. Sundramoorthy has been announced as the head coach of the Singapore Selection side that will take on English Premier League clubs Arsenal, Everton and Stoke City in the 2015 Barclays Asia Trophy.

The Tampines Rovers coach has previously taken charge of the national team during selected World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers. He also famously led the LionsXII to the Malaysian Super League title in 2013.

Sundram, 49, said: "Our players will gain valuable match experience and exposure from taking on world-class stars such as Mesut Oezil, Alexis Sanchez, Gareth Barry and Asmir Begovic, and this will further strengthen their capabilities.

"It will be a privilege and a fantastic experience to play at the 55,000-seat National Stadium, especially just three weeks before Singapore turns 50 on 9 August. The Premier League is very popular among Singaporeans and I hope fans will pack the stadium on both match-days to support us against these three top sides and their star players."

The Trophy, which is the only EPL-affiliated competition staged outside England, will be held at the National Stadium in Kallang on July 15 and 18.
