Football: Singapore Under-21s thrash Hong Kong in International Challenge Cup

The Singapore Under-21s kicked off the inaugural Football Association of Singapore (FAS) U-21 International Challenge Cup in dominant fashion with a comfortable 5-0 win over Hong Kong on Wednesday to make the final.

Dhukilan Jeevamani (16th minute), Joshua Pereira (34th and 38th), Muhaimin Suhaimi (53rd), Amiruldin Asraf (57th) all netted against a Hong Kong team who barely threatened.

Midfielder Pereira, who plays for S-League side Garena Young Lions, had an excellent outing when he popped up with two assists as well - setting up defender Dhukilan and substitute Muhaimin.

Hong Kong were unable to pose any real threat to the hosts and did not even manage a single shot on target as they were forced to defend wave after wave of opposing attacks.

The Cubs will go on to face Iran on Saturday in the final. The latter beat Uzbekistan 5-4 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in the other knockout match yesterday at Bishan to advance.

Losers Hong Kong and Uzbekistan will battle it out also on Saturday at Bishan in the third and fourth-place play-off.
