Football: Singapore Selection win Sultan of Selangor's Cup for first time in five years

SELANGOR - For the first time in five years, the Singapore Selection side won the Sultan of Selangor's Cup after beating the Selangor Selection team 4-3 on penalties at the Shah Alam Stadium.

The scores were tied at 1-1 at full-time.

Selangor opened the scoring through winger R. Gopinathan in the 17th minute before Geylang International winger Stanely Ng equalised in the 77th minute to send the match into a shoot-out.

Geylang goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari was the hero of the night, saving two spot-kicks to give the Singapore Selection a 4-3 victory.

The Sultan of Selangor's Cup is an annual friendly match between the state's selection side and a team picked from the S-League.

In the pre-match curtain raiser, the Selangor veterans defeated their Singaporean counterparts 2-0.
