SINGAPORE - Football fans here were divided over Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's sacking on Thursday (Dec 17) after a calamitous run of results left the west London club one point above the relegation zone.

Many were shocked to hear the news, while others rejoiced, saying it was a much needed wake-up call for last season's Premier League champions.

Here's a selection of the reactions on social media:

Comments flew in when The Straits Times shared its report on Facebook late last night. As of 9am on Friday (Dec 18) about 130 users had commented on the post.

Facebook user Meng Hwee echoed the sentiments of many when he asked: "But didn't he just help Chelsea to win the EPL last season?"

"Players campaigned against him. Sacking Jose is like Man Utd dismissing Ferguson," added user Agreas Kee.

User Kinlin Liu quipped: " Not so special anymore now is he?"

The Official Chelsea Supporters' Club Singapore also posted a note thanking Mourinho last night.

And over on Twitter, some fans were understandably upset over the news:
