SINGAPORE - The 2016 S-League season will open with double Cup winners Albirex Niigata FC (S) facing defending S-League champions Brunei DPMM FC on Feb 13 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Community Shield will also serve as a league fixture, said the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), which released the programme on Friday.

The result after 90 minutes of regulation time will be taken into account for the league table, but should there be a tie, the match will then go to penalties to decide which team wins the first silverware on offer this season. There will be no extra time.

This year's Singapore Cup will kick off on May 22, while the League Cup will take place between July 11 and July 29.

The final match of the 2016 S-League season will be played on Oct 28, before the domestic season draws to a close a week later on Nov 4 with the Singapore Cup final.
