ABUJA, (AFP) - Nigeria on Thursday sacked Stephen Keshi as national football team coach, despite his side's 3-1 home win against Sudan in their 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers, that kept them in the running to defend their African title.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said after an emergency meeting that former coach Shuaibu Amodu would take temporary charge before a foreign coach is appointed.

Nigeria are currently third in qualification Group A and have just two matches to save their African Nations Cup hopes, where they will face Congo and South Africa, the two team currently above them in the standings.
