LIVERPOOL (AFP) - A goal in time added on by Senegal international Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over city rivals Everton and saw them move into second spot in the Premier League on Monday (Dec 19).

A fractious and scrappy affair at Goodison Park had looked like ending in a draw after little in the way of chances prior to Mane's goal - except for a superb save by Everton substitute goalkeeper Joel Robles from Roberto Firmino's volley 10 minutes from time.

Robles, who had come on for the injured Maarten Stekelenburg, could do nothing when Daniel Sturridge worked himself into enough space to shoot. His effort came back off the post only for Mane to react quicker than the Everton defenders and knock the ball into the net.

Victory sees Liverpool move above Manchester City into second, six points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
