Football: LionsXII held to a 1-1 away draw by ATM

PAROI, SEREMBAN - The LionsXII's five-match winning streak in all competitions came to an end after they were held 1-1 by ATM FA at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the LionsXII ran out convincing winners at home against the same opponents, strolling to a 3-1 victory. This time around, however, they had to settle for a point despite scoring first.

Hafiz Abu Sujad netted the opener just before half-time, when the 24-year-old was afforded time and space in the box to find the bottom right corner of the net with precision.

ATM , however, were to clinch a controversial equaliser in the 58th minute. The referee pointed to the spot after LionsXII defender Madhu Mohana was adjudged to have tripped Abdulafees Abdulsalam in the area. Replays showed that the incident had taken place just outside the penalty box.

Abdulafees stepped up and sent goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud the wrong way with the penalty.

Tonight's match was also the first time that the LionsXII had been involved in a 10pm kick-off, a departure from the usual timing of 8.45pm. The revised timing was due to the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

The LionsXII will next travel to the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya to face PDRM FA on Friday.
