LionsXII coach Fandi Ahmad has again set his team a target of finishing in the top three for the upcoming Malaysian Super League (MSL) season.

Said Fandi, who is into his second season as head coach of the LionsXII: "We go into every competition wanting to win, and will aim high again. The target is again to finish in the top three."

The LionsXII finished eighth in the 12-team MSL last season, despite starting the campaign as the defending champions.

The departures of stalwarts Hariss Harun, Baihakki Khaizan and Shahril Ishak had weakened the team before the start of the 2014 season. This year, the team has to contend with yet another blow - the absence of key defender Safuwan Baharudin, who joined Australian outfit Melbourne City on a three-month loan deal last week.

But Fandi said: "We have lost some key players, but the youngsters have fire in them, and are determined. If we show teamwork we can do well."
