Football: LionsXII advance to the semi-finals of FA Cup after 4-0 aggregate win

The LionsXII secured their passage into the Malaysia FA Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 second-leg win over Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) at the Pasir Gudang Stadium on Wednesday night, giving them a 4-0 aggregate win.

Khairul Nizam opened the scoring on the night when he turned in Khairul Amri's free-kick with an emphatic diving header in the 19th minute. Nazrul Nazari then wrapped up the tie in the 65th minute when he latched onto Faris Ramli's through ball and finished past goalkeeper Aizad Azman.

This is the first time that the LionsXII have advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, with a 2012 quarter-final exit the closest the side had come prior to their latest success.

The semi-final will be a two-legged affair that will be played on May 9 and 16 against Terengganu, who had beaten Perak 3-1 on aggregate in their quarter-final tie, yesterday.

Next up for Fandi Ahmad's LionsXII is a home match against Sarawak this Saturday.
