SINGAPORE - With three days to the new season, the S-League received a timely boost when Hyundai Motors was announced as its new co-title sponsor in a ceremony on Thursday (Feb 23) at Komoco Motors at Alexandra Road.

The car manufacturer joins insurer Great Eastern and replaces drinks manufacturer Yeo's, signing a two-year deal.

Singapore's only professional sports league will now be known as the Great Eastern-Hyundai S-League.

Mr Teo Hock Seng, group managing director of Komoco Motors, distributors of Hyundai cars, said: "Let's see what we can draw from our connections, that is our commitment to Singapore football."

Said Mr Lim Kia Tong, president of the Football Association of Singapore's provisional council: "The fact that a leading multinational company like Hyundai is willing to back the league strongly and wants to be part of Singapore football shows the strength of the competition and we are appreciative of their support."

The latest deal adds to Hyundai's portfolio of football sponsorships. The Korean company is an official Fifa partner, a top-tier Uefa sponsor and the title sponsor of the Australian A-League.
