Borussia Dortmund fans clad in yellow and black turned up in big numbers in Changi Airport today to welcome the team who were flying in from Japan.

The eight-time Bundesliga winners are slated for a friendly match against Johor Darul Takzim in Johor Baru on Thursday.

The team will stay in Singapore's Fullerton Hotel until Friday, with activities like press conferences, sightseeing and a visit to Nanyang Polytechnic lined up.

Big names like Shinji Kagawa, Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are in the squad.

"I'm very happy that they are here," said Syaf,17, a fan of Dortmund for two years.

"The atmosphere (inside their home stadium in Germany) made me love the team."

While Juergen Klopp who led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 has left to take a sabbatical, the fans here hope that new manager, Thomas Tuchel, can continue the good work.

"I am interested to see how Tuchel will perform," Koh Zhi Hao, 22, said.

"He's supposed to be a tactical genius so I want to see how he will evolve the team."
