Football: Ex-Reds Patrik Berger and Vladimir Smicer meet fans at Courts Megastore

SINGAPORE - An estimated 200 Liverpool fans turned up at Courts Megastore at Tampines to catch a glimpse of former Reds players Patrik Berger and Vladimir Smicer on Saturday.

The duo were at Courts for a meet-and-greet held as part of the celebration of the store's 10th anniversary celebrations.

Berger and Smicer also participated in fan activities on stage, where they tried their hand at traditional game chapteh.

Addressing the crowd, Berger, 43, thanked fans for coming.

"And let's hope Liverpool win the Premier League," he added, as the audience erupted in cheers.

Engineer Mohan Pannir Chelvam was one of five The Straits Times readers who won a pair of passes each to the meet-and-greet sessions

The 39-year-old, who presented a Liverpool flag for the former greats to sign, said: "Smicer was part of the team that won the 2005 Champions League, which nobody can forget.

"I felt a sense of accomplishment from meeting one of the legends involved in the 2005 Champions League final.

"It's still etched in my mind, and Patrik Berger being here is a bonus for me to meet the legends."
