Madrid (AFP) - Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko looks set to miss the rest of the season after suffering cruciate ligament damage in Sunday's (March 20) 3-1 win over Sevilla.

The Croatian international defender had to be replaced after just two minutes after going down unchallenged.

Atletico said in a statement that Vrsaljko will undergo more tests, but that a scan had confirmed "an injury that affects the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee".

Vrsaljko, 25, has made 25 appearances in his debut season with Atletico, and had only in recent weeks ousted Juanfran as Diego Simeone's first-choice right-back.
