The Hague (AFP) - Abdelhak Nouri has suffered "serious and permanent" brain damage following his collapse over the weekend, his club Ajax said Thursday, dashing earlier hopes the promising prospect would make a quick recovery.

"Ajax are deeply saddened by the news that 'Appie' Nouri has been diagnosed with serious and permanent brain damage," the Amsterdam club said in a tweet.
