JUERGEN KLOPP

The man who masterminded the rise of Borussia Dortmund before leaving last season. Seen as the favourite for the post, but he may prefer to wait until the summer, when more attractive jobs, including Bayern Munich, could be available.

CARLO ANCELOTTI

A Champions League winner at AC Milan and Real Madrid, and a master at crafting cohesive sides from the disparate parts purchased by wealthy owners. The Anfield job requires a complete rebuild, but if FSG could tempt him, few can match his wonderful, trophy-laden CV.

FRANK DE BOER

After five successful years at Ajax, the former Barcelona player seems ready to leave, confessing last week to a liking for both Liverpool and Newcastle. That he has gone public with his desire to move to Anfield tends to indicate that perhaps he is not as high in the running as he might like.

STEVEN GERRARD & JAMIE CARRAGHER

Gerrard has made no secret of his avowed belief he will return as manager one day. His old team-mate, Carragher, always seemed the more natural manager and the pair would, at least, be able to count on the fans' support.

GARRY MONK

The Swansea manager has similar qualities to Brendan Rodgers that FSG admire. The 36-year-old is British, talented and has a preference for playing attractive football. He has also done well in the transfer market and led the Swans to their best-ever finish of eighth in the league last season.
