Football: Singapore Under-23s lose 0-1 to Malaysia Under-23s in Merdeka Tournament

The Singapore Under-23 football team got off to a losing start in the Merdeka Tournament when it was beaten 0-1 by the Malaysia Under-23s in Kuantan.

Malaysian striker Thamil Arasu struck the winner just 10 seconds into the second half when he burst past the defence to slot past Courts Young Lions goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari.

V. Sundramoorthy's men had to endure another setback in the 55th minute, when centre-back Afiq Yunos was given a straight red card for a blatant handball on the line.

However, Malaysia could not extend their lead when right midfielder Wan Zack Haikal's penalty was brilliantly saved by Syazwan.
