THE painful transition towards a new style of football continued for the Singapore national football team yesterday, as Bernd Stange's men were whipped 1-6 by China in a friendly in Tianjin.
The hosts got off to a flying start when Dalian Aerbin striker Yu Dabao lobbed goalkeeper Hassan Sunny after seven minutes, but Lions forward Shahfiq Ghani equalised in the 16th minute.
However, China ran riot with three goals near the end of the first half. In the second half, the Lions conceded two more goals, both by Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Zheng Long.
The defeat marred stand-in captain Baihakki Khaizan's 100th international cap for Singapore.
