Football: How things stand in Europe on road to Brazil 2014 World Cup

PARIS (AFP) - European zone teams qualified for the 2014 World Cup so far and those still capable of doing so:

GOING TO BRAZIL

Group A - Belgium (winner); Group B - Italy (winner); Group C - Germany (winner); Group D - Netherlands (winner); Group E - Switzerland (winner).

ONE FOOT ON THE PLANE

Runners-up:

Group A - Croatia

Group B - Bulgaria, Denmark, Czech Republic or Armenia

Group C - Sweden

Group D - Turkey, Romania or Hungary

Group E - Iceland or Slovenia

STILL ON WAITLIST

Group F - Russia lead Portugal by three points and need just a point away at Azerbaijan. The Portuguese are assured of finishing runners-up whatever the final day results and should make the eight best runners-up play-offs.

Group G -Bosnia-Herzegovina lead Greece on goal difference and need to beat Lithuania away to assure themselves of first ever appearance at major finals, as even goal-shy Greece should beat Liechtenstein at home.

The Greeks will be assured of at the very least second regardless of the way the results pan out and a place in the play-offs.

Group H - England lead Ukraine by a point but must realistically beat the Poles at Wembley to assure themselves of a place in the finals as the Ukrainians are away at pointless San Marino.

Either of those two will then have to wait to see whether their results against the sides other than San Marino are good enough to get them in as one of the best eight runners-up.

Group I - World Cup holders Spain lead France by three points and require just a point at home to Georgia. France are guaranteed at least the runners-up spot and a place in the play-offs.
